Lightning protection refers to the measures and systems for protecting objects (buildings, facilities and open spaces) from direct hits and/or the secondary effects of lightning. The entire system is designed to absorb these hits and safely conduct the high voltage to ground. Most lightning protection systems are made up of lightning rods, metal conductors and grounding electrodes that provide a low resistance to the flow of electric current as a result of the potential difference between the electric charge in the cloud and the ground.
